Frequently Asked Question

How to keep your Air Conditioning units working:
Čas poslední změny před 11 roky

Each year RTR spends tens of thousands of dollars servicing and repairing AC units. Most of the time there are easy things you can do to ensure that those repairs never need to be done.

1) AC is a climate control system, set an AC unit at the minimum level necessary to maintain comfortably conditioned air, and leave it alone. Setting them on max both draws more energy and stresses the system.

2) Ensure that doors and windows are closed. One of the main reasons air conditioning units fail is because they are running constantly due to being over taxed. Just like heating in the winter, you don’t want to lose your conditioned air, No amount of AC will change the weather - close the windows and doors if the AC is on.

3) Ensure that you do not also have heat running. This seems common sense, but if the heat is fighting the AC it will just burn fuel and energy, and freeze up the AC.

4) If your AC unit stops working, especially on a hot day, or if windows were open, or the heat on, the most probable cause is a frozen condenser unit. There is NOTHING that can be done about this EXCEPT to SHUT IT OFF and let the refrigerant thaw for a period of 24-48 hours. This means you do not have ANY AC during that time - so don’t let it happen.

5) According to a New York Times article entitled “Enduring Summer’s Deep Freeze” by Kate Murphy, published July 4, 2015:
”people work less and make more mistakes when the air temperature is 68 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit versus 74 to 76 degrees. Moreover, some research indicates feeling cold can take a psychological toll, making people untrusting, uncommunicative and unfriendly.”
